PRODUCT FAQ'S

What is Tallow?

Tallow is a rendered form of beef fat that has been cooked and
strained to remove impurities. It typically comes from the hard fatty tissue that surrounds organ meats and loins of the cow.

Why use Tallow?

Tallow has been used for centuries by women as a cooking oil but also to make skin salves, lotions, soaps, candles, and healing ointments due to its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties.

Aside from its abundant nutrient profile, Tallow closely resembles the biochemical structure of human skin which helps our body deeply absorb all of its nutrients while strengthening and protecting the skin from environmental and elemental toxins.

What are the benefits of Tallow?

Tallow is rich in Conjugated Cinoleic Acid (CLA), Omega-3 & Omega-6 Fatty acids, as well as Vitamins A, D, E, K, and B12 which contribute to overall health and wellness but specifically to the skin and hormonal health.

Where do you source your Tallow from?

Our Tallow is sourced from grass-fed, organic farms in the Midwest and Northeast.

Is your Tallow grass-fed and finished?

Yes, we use only grass-fed and grass-finished tallow in all of our products.

How do I store Tallow products/what is their shelf life?

All of our Tallow products can be stored at room temperature for up to 6-9 months, sometimes even more. Tallow products can be stored in the refrigerator for 12-14 months and even longer in the freezer.

Does Tallow have a beefy smell?

Tallow does have a mild smell that is sweet and farmy but you will not smell like bacon, I promise!

Some of our products have added organic essential oils which provide pleasant, floral scents.

Can I use Tallow products on sensitive skin?

Yes, Tallow can be a great addition for people with sensitive skin although we do recommend avoiding products with essential oils.

Can Tallow products be used for babies, kids, men, and the elderly?

Absolutely! Tallow is suitable for people of all ages. We do, however, recommend avoiding products with essential oils for babies, children, and the elderly and always recommend performing a patch test before use.

What is the difference between the Tallow Butters and Tallow Lotions?

Tallow Lotions are nearly identical to the Tallow Butters except that they have Organic Extra Virgin Oil added which helps increase lather and moisturize the whole body.

Please read each listing to learn more about the benefits of each ingredient.

Can the Tallow Lotion be used on the face?

We recommend using Tallow Butters for your face as Tallow Lotion has Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil as an extra ingredient that can be comedogenic for some people.

We always recommend performing a patch test before use.

What is the difference between Bentonite and White Kaolin Clay in your deodorants?

Bentonite and White Kaolin Clays offer similar benefits when it comes to absorbing toxins and smells. However, Bentonite Clay has stronger absorption properties which makes it a better option for people with active lifestyles.

Do your Tallow Deodorants stain the clothes or skin?

Our Bentonite Clay and White Kaolin Clay deodorants can smudge clothes and the skin but both can easily come out with some soap and water.

Our previously loved Rose Kaolin Clay deodorants did stain clothes and the skin which is why we are discontinuing this option.

How often should I use the Herbal Hair Mask Oil?

It is recommended to use the Herbal Hair Mask Oil no more than 1-2x/week.

I am allergic to an ingredient in one of your products. Can you substitute it for something else?

Please send us an email at ulyana@holisticbyulyana.com to request a substitution. We will do our best to accommodate you.

Do you have a Vitamin C Serum?

The closest thing we have to a Vitamin C Serum is a product called Healing Facial Oil.

One of the main ingredients is Rosehip Fruit Oil, not seed oil, which is rich in Vitamin C (along with many others) and can be used in place of a Vitamin C Serum.

Why do you use Rosehip Fruit Oil instead of Rosehip Seed Oil?

Rosehip Fruit Oil is full potency and has a rich profile of nutrients, vitamins, and fatty acids such as Omega 3, 6, & 9 and it is an excellent source of Vitamin A, a natural alternative to tretinoin, that is used by holistic estheticians all over the world.

We prefer to use Rosehip Fruit Oil over seed oil due to its wide range of benefits.

Who should NOT use the Tallow Wild Yam Cream?

Our Tallow Wild Yam Cream is not recommended for children and anyone using progesterone creams or hormonal treatments.

Please advise your doctor if this product is right for you.

Can I use the Tallow Wild Yam Cream if I am perimenopausal/menopausal, or postmenopausal?

Yes, you can use the cream if any of these apply to you. We still recommend taking one week off after every 3 weeks of consistent use.

Can teenagers and prepubescent girls use the Tallow Wild Yam Cream?

Although this cream may be of benefit to young girls, we recommend advising your child’s PCP before starting use.

What do you mean by “small amount” for the Tallow Wild Yam Cream?

The size of the cream for each application should be the size of a pea or a dime.
